DA BUTTZ is an homage to the carefree spirit of original Team Aipa surfer Buttons Kaluhiokalani.
Buttons was known for innovating insane, never before seen maneuvers in the '70s, like the carving 360. DA BUTTZ started as a kneeboard design, and in 1976 Ben Aipa modified it into a compact groveler style funboard. Those modifications made the board faster and looser than the antiquated fishes of the era, which let Uncle Buttons play with skate style antics on small south shore waves.
Ankle to head high fun, this is the one. We consider DA BUTTZ the ideal fish alternative. It shares the short, squatty concept and flat rocker characteristics of a fish with a ton of volume packed in, enhanced by the Sting design element and an outrageously wide swallow tail. The result is a responsive, unique feeling that makes weaker small days feel lively.
DA BUTTZ runs a classic Ben Aipa bottom contour progression from roll to vee to double concave with vee out the tail, and incorporates the hydroplane speed boat inspired Bevel Rails. That 45 degree split rail design element provides increased lift and speed, reduced rail to rail surface area for heightened performance, and positive rail control through carves.
When the rest of the crowd is being overly serious on their shortboards and midlengths, DA BUTTZ will keep your surfing playful and alive.
